Adventures in Wedding Planning

So if you think planning a wedding is hard...think about planning two! My fiancé and I are getting married twice this year. I'm marrying my sweetheart/best friend and partner-in-crime, Scott. He's American and so am I, BUT here's the twist to my life. I was born in the USA but lived the majority of my life in India. So I'm Indian with Indian parents, but by virtue of being born in Madison WI I'm a US citizen who lived in India on a visa till I was 25, that's when I decided to come to the US to study, live and work.

So back to our wedding plans, we are having an American wedding in Madison, GA on Oct. 13th, 2012 and an Indian wedding in Coorg, India, date is a TBD in Dec. 2012. I decided to blog about my wedding planning and the journey to our big day because this is all so new and exciting to me. I love to share the details, the hunt for deco, the hard work, dress shopping, the scheduling, florist, caterers, the cake and oh-so much more that goes into this leading up to our big day (s).

Location, Location, Location


So my first blog post I wanted to share the first big decision that was made for our US wedding- the location!

We knew we wanted an outdoor wedding- we wanted the ceremony site to be surrounded by just trees and sky. We wanted the reception under a big white tent with dancing under the stars. With this shared vision we started our hunt. We came close to choosing 'The Hill' in Athens GA and it had everything that we wanted, except the ceremony site which was a sunken garden. I could not envision myself getting married in front of a wall! We did however love their food and are going with them for catering our wedding reception. Moving on...

Enter my second obsession- getting married under a big old grand Oak tree!

Which lead us to the charming FarmHouse Inn in Madison GA. First of all please note the irony, born in Madison WI and will marry in Madison GA. I thought it was a sign! The ceremony site was perfect....under this big grand Oak tree (pictured here in winter....this will have a  big leafy effect in October for the wedding). 

We were so drawn to this place as it had everything we wanted, the dance floor under the stars, charming B&B with rooms for our entire wedding party and families to stay so we can make it a whole wedding party weekend. I love, love, love the symbolism of getting married under the grand Oak tree. My vision is to hang lanterns off the branches for the ceremony. I can't wait! Excitement creeps in in the middle of the schedules, vendor calls, bridal gown shopping, 'picking' at flea markets for wedding deco (a post for another day) and all the DIY things I plan to do and more.
